Marcus Wareing renames Petrus

Marcus Wareing has confirmed that Pétrus is to be renamed Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley once the restaurant’s contract with parent company Gordon Ramsay Holdings (GRH) expires next month.

The name change, which was first reported in Caterer in May, comes after Wareing settled the dispute with his former mentor Ramsay over the future of the two-Michelin-starred restaurant at London’s Berkeley Hotel earlier this month.

Chef patron Wareing will relaunch the Knightsbridge-based restaurant on 15 September, with GRH holding on to the name Pétrus and transferring it to another site within the group.

Wareing said the new name will bring a new sense of energy to the restaurant that will help us to produce ever better dining experience.

“My focus is now very much on the future and the opportunities that my new restaurant will present," he said.

Klaus Kabelitz, general manager of The Berkeley, part of the Maybourne Hotel Group, added: “Marcus has become an essential element of what makes The Berkeley a true gourmet destination. We are delighted, therefore, to continue to offer his cooking to our guests and look forward to exciting future ahead.”

Earlier this week Pétrus overtook Gordon Ramsay’s eponymous three-Michelin-starred restaurant in Chelsea as the best in London in the latest edition of Harden’s eating out guide.
