Compass Group’s Chartwells division has extended its school meals deal with Kent County Council, in a deal worth £5.4m in total turnover.

The caterer has extended its three-year contract, which was due to end on 31 July, for two more years. It will see Chartwells continue to feed pupils at 94 primary schools in the county.

The caterer is also rolling out a new food offer whereby pupils are served a portion of meat or protein by catering staff but help themselves to carbohydrates, vegetables and salad.

Chartwells said this would provide children with choice while making sure they enjoyed a healthy diet that conforms to the school meals nutrient standards.

Tony Byrne, business director at Chartwells, said: “We are delighted to continue our relationship with Kent County Council and to roll out our new food offering.”
