Wolseley owners seek New York site

Wolseley, Piccadilly

The owners of London’s iconic Wolseley restaurant are looking for a site in New York as part of plans to launch the brand internationally, according to the Telegraph.

Rex Restaurants, the company owned by restaurateurs Jeremy King and Chris Corbin, is understood to be looking at suitable sites for the Parisian-style Wolseley in New York, after negotiations to take over the Oak Room and Oak Bar at the Plaza hotel fell through.

The pair, who previously owned Le Caprice, J Sheekey and The Ivy, also have locations in Los Angeles and India on the menu and are being supported by Dawnay Day, the London-based private equity group.

It is thought the pair could open five or six new restaurants over the next few years, including a further London venue.

The Wolseley on Piccadilly is thought to turnover £10m a year, making it one of the most successful restaurants in London.
