Corus Hotels has launched Chef School 2005 to recruit apprentice chefs to work across its UK hotels.
The structured training scheme is expected to attract more than 8,000 applications aged 16 to 24 years-old.
Successful candidates will work in one of Corus’s 40-plus hotels on a full-time wage for 12 months, while simultaneously studying for an NVQ catering qualification.
The school was created in 2003 to tackle the shortage of professional chefs in the UK.
Mark Staples, food and beverage development director at Corus, said: “We feel strongly that it is up to the hospitality industry to address the dearth of cooking talent in this country, so we are actively seeking youngsters who could be the future Jamie Oliver or Nigella Lawson.”
