Moscow hotels were the most profitable in March 2007 of the 10 European cities listed in the monthly Europe HotStats survey from TRI, despite having the lowest occupancy level after Prague.
Income before fixed income per available room (IBFCpar) averaged €152.44 in Moscow, ahead of London’s €122.86.
Although London hotels achieved a higher revenue per available room (€164.16 compared with Moscow’s €147.31), the Russian hotels scored in terms of average room rate which soared by 31.1% to €225.44 against the €196.04 achieved in the UK capital.
Moscow also benefits from the lowest payroll costs as a percentage of revenue - just 18.1% against 25.4% in London, which has the third lowest wage costs.
Budapest was the least profitable city for hotels in the survey, with an IBFCpar of just €26.51 during March that was nearly 17% lower than in the same month of 2006.

Definition of terms
Occupancy is that proportion of the bedrooms available during the period which are occupied during the period.
Room rate is the total bedroom revenue for the period divided by the total bedrooms occupied during the period.
Revpar is the total bedroom revenue for the period divided by the total available rooms during the period
Payroll % is the payroll for all hotels in the sample as a percentage of total revenue
IBFCpar is the Income Before Fixed Charges shown per available room
