The owners of restaurants in Newbury and Reading have snapped up the award-winning Gilby’s restaurant in Cardiff.

Mike Standerline and Xavier Le-Bellego - who already own the Red House in Newbury and Forbury’s in Reading – have bought a new lease on the Welsh restaurant from owner and chef Anthony Armelin, who established the restaurant a decade ago.

The two AA-rosette restaurant, which is housed in an 18th-century converted barn and majors on seafood-influenced dishes, has won many accolades, including AA Restaurant of the Year 2006 for Wales and a Michelin Bib Gourmand rating for three consecutive years.

It is located in Culverhouse Cross to the west of the city centre and borders a 20-acre site on which ITV Wales hopes to build its Wales Media Park.

The restaurant can seat 110 diners inside and another 30 outside. Owners’ accommodation to the rear includes a galleried bedroom, bathroom and kitchen.

The Bristol office of Christie + Co sold the lease off an advertised asking price of £295,000.
