Young Chef Young Waiter deadline extended

The entry date for the Young Chef Young Waiter competition has been extended to 11 July.

Organised by the British Hospitality Association and The Restaurant Association, it is the premier competition for aspiring young talent and attracts hundreds of young hopefuls keen to demonstrate their skills.

"Quite a few potential entrants have asked for more time to complete the entry form, so we've decided to extend the date to Monday 11 July," said competition organiser Philippa Brady.

"But that will have to be the cut-off date, so I'm appealing to everyone to get their entries in quickly."

This year's competition has three new skill categories for both chefs and waiters. For waiters there is now best barista, best wine knowledge and best cheese knowledge, while chefs can compete for best original dish, best dessert and best kitchen craft.

The northern chef heats will be held at Darlington College on 7 September 2011 and the waiter heats at Rockliffe Hall, Darlington on 8 September 2011.

The southern chef heats will be held at the University of West London, Ealing on 14 September 2011, with the waiter heat at Nestle's training centre, Rashleigh's in Maidenhead, on 19 September 2011.

The national finals will be held at Westminster Kingsway College, London on 19 October 2011 with the awards ceremony in the evening.
