Hawksmoor to open fourth London site on Regent St this autumn

London steak restaurant and cocktail bar Hawksmoor is to open its fourth site in the capital this autumn.

Owners Will Beckett and Huw Gott have agreed a deal with the Ignite Group to take over its Senkai restaurant on Regent Street, which was formerly Cocoon and shut earlier this year after just six months of operation.

Hawksmoor's new 10,000sq ft first-floor restaurant will open in October, holding up to 235 diners.

Beckett told Caterer and Hotelkeeper the design of the new restaurant would be quite different from the previous three restaurants and that the menu would have a new focus on seafood as well as steaks.

"The current plan is to give equal weight to seafood and steak," he said. "Four chefs and Huw went to Devon and Cornwall this week to spend time with suppliers, eat in plenty of restaurants and get advice from great fish chefs - Mitch Tonks and Nathan Outlaw - and I hope those two will be quite involved in helping us create a great fish offering."

He added: "In general this is quite new territory for us, both in terms of size and menu, so we're trying to get as much help and advice as we can from people who know significantly more than we do."

Josh Leon, associate director at property agency Davis Coffer Lyons, added: "We originally let this unusual space to Ignite Group and their Cocoon restaurant was a success for nearly a decade. Recently they reopened it as Senkai, which didn't work quite so well, but as experienced restaurateurs know, licensed leaseholds can in some cases command substantial premiums even when the business inside is no longer thriving. Hawksmoor is a shining light in the London dining scene - not to mention a terrific team to work with in this business."

The original Hawksmoor opened in Spitalfields in 2006. Sister sites Hawksmoor Seven Dials and Hawksmoor Guild Hall followed in 2010 and 2011 respectively.
