Weekly revpar falls by nearly 9% in London

Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) dropped by 8.3% in London and by 14.2% in the provinces in the week ending 11 July 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.

London revpar fell to £120.81, down from £131.80 in the equivalent week of 2008. Occupancy grew by 0.5 percentage points, to 89%, but average room rate shrank by 8.9% to £135.67.

In the same week, regional revpar fell to £49.39 (2008: £57.58) as occupancy slipped by 3.7 percentage points (to 72.8%) and average room rate decreased by 9.9% to £67.87.

Manchester hotels fared better, with revpar declining by 5.6% to £53.10 (2008: £56.26). Occupancy grew by 1.8 percentage points to 75.8% while average room rate dropped by 7.9% to £70.06.

Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 11 July declined by 7.3% in London (to £122.44) and by 13% in the provinces, to £50.48. In Manchester, revpar fell by 11.4% to £53.02.
