The Commander pub and restaurant to relaunch

The Commander pub and restaurant in London’s Notting Hill is to relaunch as a foodie destination this autumn with a new deli and market area.

The venue, which is set to close in October to undergo an extensive refurbishment, will reopen at the end of November.

On reopening, it will include an oyster bar, 60-seat dining room and a number of private function rooms as well as a deli and courtyard market place.

The venue’s bar and dining room will comprise two separate areas, with the restaurant likely to include an open kitchen.

Head chef Robert Staegemann, who recently joined The Commander from fine dining restaurant Vivat Bacchus in Farringdon, will oversee the menu.

The Commander will also offer fresh produce, picnic hampers and ready meals from its restaurant while the market area will feature independent suppliers The Ginger Pig butcher and John Norris fishmonger.

Commander’s operations director Michael Parker told Caterersearch the new concept had been inspired by the Granville Island Public Market in Vancouver, Canada.

“By having the suppliers on site we’ll be able to use fresh produce and won’t have to store anything over a period of time,” he said.
