Hotel revpar falls by 7.7% in the regions

Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) dropped by 4.1% in London and by 7.7% in the provinces in the week ending 10 October 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.

Revpar at London hotels declined to £107.37, down from £111.93 in the equivalent week of 2008. Occupancy grew by 2.2 percentage points, to 84.3% while average room rate shrank by 6.5% to £127.38.

In the same week, regional revpar fell to £50.26 (2008: £54.48) as occupancy dropped by 1.6 percentage points (to 71.9%) and average room rate decreased by 5.7% to £69.90.

Birmingham hotels outperformed the regional average, increasing revpar by 0.5% to £52 (2008: £51.72) on the back of a 5.7 percentage point rise in occupancy, to 80.2%, which offset a 6.6% decline in average room rate to £64.84.

Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 10 October declined by 2.3% in London (to £110.61) and by 11.3% in the provinces, to £50.69. In Birmingham, revpar slumped by 12.9% to £48.77 over the same period.
