Acorn Award winner George Blogg appointed executive chef at Hotel TerraVina

George Blogg has been appointed as executive chef of Gerard and Nina Basset's award-wining Hotel TerraVina in the New Forest.

The 2011 Acorn Award winner, who was working as sous chef at Le Champignon Sauvignon in Cheltenham at the time of winning his award, will be overseeing the main restaurant, but primarily concentrating on the Dining Room at TerraVina.

The new, fine-dining restaurant is expected to launch in December and will be open for dinner only on Saturday, Sunday and Monday evenings. It will seat up to 24.

A nine or 12-course tasting menu will comprise dishes using foraged and fresh produce exclusively from Hampshire and Dorset, which can be paired with wines specially selected by Gerard and his wine team. The menus will be priced at £72 and £85 respectively (excluding wines). The Dining Room at TerraVina will sit alongside the hotel's main 55-seat restaurant.

Blogg commented: "TerraVina is an amazing place and I am very excited to be running my own kitchen for the first time. I hope that my food will match the very high standards created by Nina and Gerard."

Nina Basset, co-owner of TerraVina and managing director of the 10 in 8 Fine Dining Group, said she felt fortunate to have Blogg joining the TerraVina team. "George is a super chap and he brings a passion and enthusiasm for food which is infectious and we love all of the forest foraged treats he is tempting us with."

10 in 8 chief executive Alan Murchison added: "We are very pleased to have George on board. He has been working with the 10 in 8 group for eight months now, working his way around the other restaurants in the group. I will give him as much support as I can to help him realise his huge potential."
