Spanish environmentalists have won a landmark battle for the partial demolition of a massive 21-storey, 400-room hotel complex in Seville.
A government ruling agreed with Greenpeace campaigners that the hotel and golf complex had been built illegally on the rocks of the Algarrobico beach, on the coast of one of Spain’s national parks, the Cabo de Gata Nijar Natural Park.
Despite the ruling, it remains to be seen whether the demolition actually takes place, as the administration in Seville has a history of turning a blind eye to such developments.
Azata, the construction company behind the hotel, plans to appeal the decision.
