Shopping centre café operator BB's Coffee & Muffins has announced plans to open a further 40 cafés in 2006, creating more than 350 full- and part-time jobs.

BB's currently has 126 cafés across the UK and Ireland.

"BB's had a record year of openings in 2005 and is set to exceed this in 2006, making us the fifth-largest coffee chain overall," said general manager Michele Young.

Recent research by market analysts Allegra Strategies showed the UK coffee bar market grew by 10% in 2005, hitting a new turnover high of £1.1b.

Young added: "The coffee chain sector is vibrant at the moment. We have seen a significant rise in demand on the high street for coffee and related food products, and as the Allegra research indicates, we expect this trend to continue in 2006 and beyond."
