Sandwich chain Subway has unveiled plans to invest more than £60m opening 600 new stores in the UK and Ireland by the end of next year.
The move, which will create more than 7,000 jobs, follows the opening of 22 new outlets over the past month, an investment of more than £2m.
Subway, which launched in the US in 1965, has grown rapidly from just 25 UK and Ireland stores in 2000, with expansion continuing at an average five store openings each week.
Neil Black, development agent at Subway, said: “We are delighted with the success we've achieved and that we are going to be able to provide a further 7,000 jobs. Subway has already brought significant investment and job creation to the UK and Ireland, creating over 16,000 jobs to date.”
Subway was one of the first catering operators to sign up to the Food Standards Agency’s menu labelling trial, which kicks of this summer.
