Dominic Ford to extend Japanese restaurant concept

London restaurateur Dominic Ford has announced plans to expand his Japanese restaurant concept Bincho Yakitori, Caterersearch can reveal.

The move comes just a week after the former Harvey Nichols food and retail director unveiled details of a second Butcher & Grill outlet in Wimbledon, south west London.

Bincho Yakitori, which specialises in yakitori, a Japanese style of cooking involving skewered meat and vegetables cooked on a grill, launched at the Oxo Tower last year on the site of Richard Neat’s former restaurant Neat’s.

Co-owned by Ford, David Miney and Ronnie Truss, the second site will open on Old Compton Street in Soho in mid-May. It will comprise a 115-seat restaurant spread over two floors and include interiors featuring Japanese elements including counters set around five yakitori grills where diners can watch the chefs live in action.

Ford told Caterersearch that expanding the Bincho Yakitori brand has always been the intention behind the business.

“The Oxo Tower restaurant is our flagship outlet while the Soho venture will be a smaller restaurant and one we’re hoping to roll out across the capital,” he said.

“We’re also working on a third concept comprising smaller outlets set around a central island with between 20 and 30 covers.”

Ford added he had been in talks to expand the brand outside of the UK and was looking at sites in the Middle East.
