The Tourism Advisory Council has today held its first meeting chaired by tourism minister Barbara Follett.
The council includes representatives from Virgin Atlantic, Eurostar, Travelodge and Centre Parcs.
Set up following this January’s tourism summit, the council aims to help identify how minsters can support the sector through the global recession via regular contact between operators and the Government.
The formation of a council was also a recommendation in VisitBritain’s British Tourism Framework Review.
Follett said: “With over 1.4 million jobs in the British tourist industry, we must do all we can to support it through the good times and the bad.
“The work of the council will also feed in to the newly reformed inter-ministerial group on tourism which will see ministers from across Government meet to discuss ways to support the industry.”
