Firefighters tackle blaze at Falmouth Beach Hotel

Ten fire engines were called to the scene of a massive blaze at the Falmouth Beach Hotel, in Falmouth, Cornwall, today.

The fire was reported at the 120-bedroom Best Western property at Gyllyngvase beach seafront at 12.09pm.

Cornwall Fire & Rescue Services said that the Falmouth, as well as neighbouring property the St Michael's Hotel, have both been evacuated with all staff and guests accounted for.

Eyewitness Sean White, director at Wesup Paddleboarding, told Caterer and Hotelkeeper: "It started with a little bit of smoke from what looked like a tiny fire and within ten minutes there were three rooms on fire.

"Then within half an hour there were flames coming out of the roof and the roof fell in.

White said that the fire has spread across to the left hand side of the building, near to the St Michael's hotel.

"There's a guy on a telehandler firing the water into the roof," he added. "It's pretty serious. I've never seen anything like it."
