Biodegradable cups from Peros

Wednesday 30 May 2007 17:33
Independent Fairtrade coffee, tea, hot chocolate and snacks supply company Peros has launched a comprehensive range of biodegradable catering products, including cups, to complement its Fairtrade product range.

The range includes Nature Green polylactic acid (PLA) products. The lactate from which the material is produced is derived from annually renewable resources, such as corn starch and other starch-rich substances such as maize, sugar and wheat. The production of PLA requires fewer fossil resources and generates fewer greenhouse gases compared with most traditional plastics.

Composting of Nature Green products will lead to complete decomposition and biodegradation of the material - turning it into water and carbon dioxide. Hot cups are made of paper with a PLA lining and come in 8oz and 12oz sizes. PLA cold cups are available in 8oz, 12oz and 16oz sizes.
