Hospitality figures in Queen's Birthday Honours list

Hospitality and tourism figures were well represented in this weekend's Queen’s Birthday Honours list, with a Knighthood, two CBEs and six MBEs created.

Bill Moorcroft, the principal at Manchester's Trafford College, receivied a Knighthood for services to local and national further education. He was formerly head of hospitality training.

Alan Parker, chief executive of Whitbread, was made a CBE for services to the hospitality industry.

Andrew Coppel, chair of Tourism Ireland and former group chief executive of Queens Moat Houses, was appointed CBE for services to the tourism industry.

Sandra Dawe, director of strategy and communications at VisitBritain was made MBE for services to the tourism industry.

Jane Fry, manager of the Salisbury Tourist Information Centre, was made MBE for services to tourism in the south-west.

Peter Griffiths, director of Salon Culinaire, was appointed MBE for services to the hospitality industry. As was Willie Pike, executive chef and head of craft training for Costley and Costley Hoteliers, who was recognised for services to the hospitality industry in Scotland and to charity.

Allegra McEvedy, the co-founder of Leon and cookery writer, was appointed MBE for services to the hospitality industry.

Avril Owton, proprietor of The Cloud hotel in Brockenhurst, Hampshire and fellow of the Institute of Hospitality, was made MBE for services to the hospitality industry and charity in Hampshire.

Brian Summers, the chair of Tourism West Midlands, was appointed MBE for services to the tourism industry and voluntary sector.
