North-east boutique hotel to have Tardis and cinema themed rooms

A North-east based business entrepreneur is to open a boutique hotel, which it is claimed   will be one of the most unusual in the country.

John Marshall and partner Sa MacDonald say that the themed suites at The Fallen Angel in Durham have been specifically designed to draw in the customers.

Marshall said: "We want something a bit theatrical, to create a real unforgettable experience."

Themed rooms at the grade II-listed building include a cinema suite, with a huge screen and seats from the back seat of a Rolls- Royce, a sci-fi room with a Tardis entrance and a French boudoir suite.

Marshall who founded the Durham Pine furniture chain in the 1980s says the £1.6m development is on schedule for opening in August.

MacDonald said: "We are looking at every aspect in great detail, right down to the handles fitted to furniture and to the type of wall-covering to best create the ambience we seek for each room.

“Everything will be tastefully done, but will also deliver a huge wow factor when guests open the door to their room."
