Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) dropped by 6.4% in London and by 12.8% in the provinces in the week ending 13 June 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.
London revpar fell to £107.67, down from £115.01 in the equivalent week of 2008. Occupancy grew by 2.4 percentage points, to 83.9%, but average room rate shrank by 9.1% to £128.28.
In the same week, regional revpar fell to £48.40 (2008: £55.51) as occupancy slipped by 2.9 percentage points (to 70.2%) and average room rate decreased by 9.2% to £68.99.
Manchester hotels suffered a bigger fall in revpar, which dropped by 14.2% to £49.07 thanks to a 15.4% drop in average room rate. Occupancy increased by one percentage point.
Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 13 June declined by 8.3% in London (to £100.69) and by 13.8% in the provinces, to £46.73. In Manchester, revpar slumped by 14.4% to £50.24.
