Wholesaler Waverley TBS is switching from corks to screwcaps on the appellation Chablis and Fleurie wines it imports from Ropiteau, its French wine partner.

The move follows research showing that screwcaps are acceptable to more than 70% of UK wine drinkers.

"We believe that Chablis and Fleurie are the perfect types of wines to put into screwcap closure, as they are being drunk young," explains Anne Roque, wine category manager at Waverley.

The company imports some one million cases of Chablis and one-third of a million cases of Fleurie to the UK, making Ropiteau the leading French brand in the UK on-trade.
