Canary Wharf has seen the launch of a new riverside bistro and bar marking the start of a host of new restaurant openings in the area this summer.

The Lower East, which softly opened last week, is a New York bistro inspired restaurant and bar offering an all-day dining menu. Located on the River Thames, the 180-cover venue comprises a main dining room, bar and outdoor terrace.

The Lower East, which will officially launch in September, is a joint venture from general managers Michelle Moreno and Richard Moore as well as head chef Nick Cuadrado, who previously worked together at Grille Restaurants.

It marks the start of a number of new openings in Canary Wharf over the coming months which will include Jamie Oliver’s high street chain Jamie’s Italian; a new Canteen outlet; and a sister site to Rainer Becker’s Japanese restaurant Roka.

Moreno told Cateresearch the Lower East is designed to provide a comfortable environment for both residents and professionals in the area.

“The riverside location right next to the Canary Wharf pier is truly incredible and we’re confident that the Lower East will become a place where people will want to be regulars,” she said.

“Canary Wharf is developing into a foodie destination with all of the new restaurant launches and the competition is great as it means more people will come into the area.”
