Weekly revpar falls by 9.4% in the regions but just 1.2% in London

Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) fell by 1.2% in London and by 9.4% in the provinces in the week ending 12 September 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.

London revpar dropped to £112.61, down from £114.02 in the equivalent week of 2008. Occupancy grew by 2.3 percentage points, to 85.6%, while average room rate shrank by 3.9% to £131.57.

In the same week, regional revpar fell to £52.79 (2008: £58.27) as occupancy dropped by 2.1 percentage points (to 74.7%) and average room rate decreased by 6.9% to £70.67.

Hotels in Birmingham experienced smaller falls than the regional average. Revpar fell by 3.6% to £45.58 (2008: £47.20) as a 0.8 percentage point drop in occupancy (to 71.3%) failed to offset a 4.7% slide in average room rate, to £63.77.

Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 12 September declined by 9.7% in London (to £88.27) and by 10.6% in the provinces, to £46.77. In Birmingham, revpar was down by 12% to £32.07.
