Bidder pays £23,000 to dine with Gordon Ramsay on London Eye

A mystery bidder has paid £23,000 to dine in Gordon Ramsay’s pop-up restaurant in one of the capsules of the London Eye.
 
Gordon Ramsay is one of six top London chefs who will, for one night, transform one of the capsules into a kitchen in a special event forming part of the inaugural London Restaurant Festival, which starts next week.
 
The London Eye Restaurant Capsules, which will run from 8-14 October, will each night give ten diners the chance to eat food cooked by the chefs in the temporary dining room 135 metres above the capital.
 
The other chefs, whose capsules will be sold off in a separate auction, are: Richard Corrigan (Corrigan's Mayfair), Francesco Mazzei (L'Anima), Vineet Bhatia (Rasoi Vineet Bhatia), Tong Chee Hwee (Hakkasan), Ross Shonhan (Zuma), and Alan Bird and Gary Lee (The Ivy).
 
Members of the public can make sealed bids to hire out the capsule restaurants, with bids starting at £5,500.
 
The London Restaurant Festival will give 5% of the money raised by the London Eye Restaurant Capsules to food charity Action Against Hunger.
 
The London Restaurant Festival will take place from 8-13 October and has been created by the London Evening Standard’s food critic Fay Maschler and Simon Davis, who together run restaurant consultancy Private View.
 
Supported by Mayor of London Boris Johnson and tourism body Visit London, it will be a citywide celebration of dining out designed to raise the profile of establishments involved and drive footfall.
