Nathan Outlaw to relocate Michelin-starred restaurant from Fowey to Rock

Cornwall-based chef Nathan Outlaw has closed his Michelin-starred restaurant at the Marina Villa hotel in Fowey and will relocate it to the St Enodoc hotel in Rock next year.

The move, which comes just months after the Marina Villa was put on the market, will see the chef reopen on 12 February at the St Enodoc Hotel where he also runs his more casual Seafood and Grill restaurant.

Outlaw, who opened his eponymous restaurant in 2007 and has been tipped by Michelin as a rising two-star chef for two consecutive years, told chef networking website Staff Canteen the move would give him more control of his business.

“Over the past six months I have been trying to put Restaurant Nathan Outlaw into a much more secure place from a business point of view, which would in turn allow my team and me to push our standards to a higher level,” he said.

“I have at least 10 members of staff who are very loyal to me and will bring everyone together in the same place. I myself now have the opportunity to cook at the stove five days a week, which is why I became a chef in the first place.”

The new Restaurant Nathan Outlaw will be housed in the St Enodoc hotel’s lounge area which has a capacity for 24 diners. The restaurant, which will serve dinner from Tuesday until Saturday as well as lunch on Fridays and Saturdays, will offer a tasting menu focused on seafood.

This is the second time Outlaw has relocated his restaurant in three years. The chef faced a similar scenario at St Ervan Manor hotel near Padstow, where he gained a Michelin star after taking control of the kitchens in 2005. The hotel was subsequently put on the market and converted back into a private residence by its owners.
