Sandwich chain Benjys plans to open a further 50 stores and 90 Benjys Delivered franchises in 2006.

In 2005, Benjys, which has been expanding outside its traditional London base, opened 25 new stores and doubled the size its Benjys Delivered concept by opening 60 mobile units.

This brings the total number of retail stores to 70 and Benjys Delivered vans to 120. The majority of Benjys stores are operated by franchisees, although it does have some corporate-owned sandwich bars in London.

The first Benjys store opened in Islington in 1989 and the company now employs more than 650 people.

The business is run by husband and wife team Ian and Emma Rickwood, who have extensive franchise experience both as franchisors and franchisees, having worked with PepsiCo, KFC and Subway.
