Shane Goodway to leave Box Tree

The Box Tree restaurant in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, which lost its Michelin star in the recently published 2003 edition of the Red Guide, is now losing its head chef. Shane Goodway is close to finalising a career move which he says is very different but will still keep him hands-on in the kitchen.

"I love this restaurant, and we have been very busy, but I have to move on to allow me to develop my career," he told Caterer.

Goodway, who has been at the Box Tree for just over a year and leaves in April, said his decision to leave the restaurant had been taken several weeks before the Michelin guide came out, and his leaving was absolutely nothing to do with the restaurant losing its star.

Restaurant owner Helen Avis, a former Catey winner, said she was already searching for a replacement head chef and she was determined that the Box Tree would regain its star next year.
