Café Rock

Smaller operators such as cafés, bars and mobile caterers can now offer the drama of live cooking at the customer's table with the launch of Café Rock, a mini version of a system that uses hot volcanic rocks to provide hot grilled meals.

Comprising just 16 rocks, it is the smallest in the line of 30 Rock, 60 Rock and 100 Rock ovens from Black Rock Grill. The rocks are heated in an oven that requires no extraction and so can be sited outside or on a back bar or counter.

Each rock is then transferred to the centre compartment of a porcelain platter and taken to the table, where customers can grill their fish, meat and vegetables to their individual tastes.

It's a way of serving simple and quick dishes at a premium price and of catering for the healthy-eating trend, as it requires no fat or oil.

The stand will feature a prize draw to win a £5,000 Café Rock kit, including 16 rocks and platters, stainless-steel underplates, shovel and pick.
