Mini System 5

Cook-chill specialist Abacus Icespy is launching a radio-controlled temperature monitor that links to computers and mobile phones to warn operators if anything goes awry with their fridge or freezer settings.

The Mini System 5 is based on Scout transmitters that connect up to five fridges and freezers and/or a refrigerated delivery vehicle and are fixed out of sight, for example, under a fridge shelf. They emit low-frequency radio signals that can travel up to 100 metres in clear air space and are picked up by a bridge that connects to a computer via a USB device.

The computer can print out a list or graph of temperature readings for HACCP reports, and caterers are warned if anything goes wrong via an SMS text message on their mobiles.

The transmitters are powered by replaceable lithium batteries with a five-year life. The easily installed system, which comes complete with instruction manual and CD, runs on Windows operating systems and is pitched at small kitchens in pubs, ethnic restaurants and hotels.

Abacus will be selling the system for £750 during the exhibition, £100 off the normal ticket.
