The general manager of De Vere’s flagship Grand hotel in Brighton has quit his role after less than a year in the job.

Jeremy Rata, chairman of the Academy of Food & Wine Service Skills, moved to Brighton’s only five-star hotel in July last year to oversee a £5m redevelopment of the iconic property.

Previously managing director of the Devonshire Arms Country House hotel and spa in Skipton, North Yorkshire, Rata is believed to have left his job two weeks ago.

The news comes after Niels Sherry quit his position as chief operating officer of De Vere Deluxe division, based at its Slaley Hall hotel in Northumberland, in January after four months in the role.

Slaley Hall is itself set to welcome De Vere’s central reservations team following the decision by owner Alternative Hotel Group to close De Vere head office in Daresbury, Warrington, by July.

The De Vere Grand was evacuated in February after a fire broke out on the sixth floor of the property, although no one was hurt.

No one at De Vere was available to comment on Rata’s departure.
