Turn your passion into action

Jean Michel Grand, executive director of Action Against Hunger, explains its annual Love Food Give Food appeal and urges the industry to take part

Here in the UK, many of us are fortunate enough to be able to share our love of good food with our families, pop out to our favourite restaurant for a nice meal and host the occasional dinner party for our friends. And because we love food, we understand how important adequate nutrition is for the health, development and wellbeing of our children.

Yet for millions of families across the world, feeding their children is a daily struggle. In many cases, ongoing hunger and hardship can lead to malnutrition, which can have life-long effects on the future growth of young children. Malnutrition limits the potential of children to grow, weakens their immune system and significantly hampers their future development.

The good news is that child malnutrition is entirely preventable. Its causes are well known and its treatment is cost-effective. At Action Against Hunger, we are committed to ending child hunger and providing families with long-term solutions to hunger. In today's world, no child should go to bed hungry.

Our annual Love Food Give Food appeal invites food lovers to come together to help end child hunger worldwide by simply doing what they love best - enjoying food, and is supported by a multitude of culinary luminaries including Raymond Blanc, Giorgio Locatelli, Valentine Warner and Marcus Wareing.

Taking part could not be easier.

the Guest-editor says
A quarter of the world's population are suffering from malnourishment and dying of hunger. Is this morally acceptable? It is not something the hospitality industry should be prepared to put up with, which is why I fully support the work of Action Against Hunger.
