Royal Oak Inn

A mother-and-son team from Gloucester have bought the lease on a Grade II-listed inn located in the nearby Cotswold village of Painswick.

The wet-led Royal Oak Inn, which dates back to the 16th century, is located in the heart of the Conservation Area in the village, which sits on the Cotswold Way.

Facilities include a locals bar to seat up to25 customers, a 30-seat lounge bar, three self-contained one-bedroom flats that have been used for staff accommodation, and a rear courtyard garden with a covered area and a former skittle alley.

The buyer is Shelagh Hume, a local government officer from Gloucester, whose son Jonathan Jones has been a chef for 10 years and worked at the inn a year ago.

The Bristol office of Christie + Co sold the remainder of the 20-year Whitbread Pub Partnership lease off an asking price of £85,000. Annual rent is currently set at £30,000.

The Royal Oak Inn is the last of four historic Cotswold inns that Christie + Co has sold on behalf of Blenheim Inns.
