Cafe & Tapas enters administration

London-based Spanish restaurant chain Café & Tapas has collapsed into administration.

The chain, which has four outlets across central London, has called in administrators the Leonard Curtis Business Solutions Group, who have begun the process of releasing the group's assets.

Café & Tapas first launched in 2009 under a licence agreement with Spanish company Café & Te but has been unable to replicate the success of the original.

Joint administrator Alex Cadwallader said: "The brand and business model has been and continues to be very successful in Spain, and this UK company had hoped to replicate that. However, this has not proved to be the case despite significant support from the shareholders."

Café & Tapas was today (31 October) placed into administration, with its restaurants in Bankside, Piccadilly and Kings Cross ceasing to trade with immediate effect.

However, the Café & Tapas site on Regent Street, which is owned outside the group, continues to trade as normal.
