Guy Parsons is to step down as chief executive of Travelodge and will be replaced by current executive chairman and former chief executive Grant Hearn. Meanwhile, Keith Hamill chairman of the business between 2003 and 2010, will also resume his former position as a result of the move.

A luxury hotel on Anglesey has slashed its energy bills by investing £500,000 in building its own biomass plant. Tre-Ysgawen Hall country house hotel and spa at Capel Coch, near Llangefni, is thought to be the first hotel in Wales to harness the power of biomass fuel for all its heating needs.

The number of overseas visits to Britain in February stayed broadly flat when compared with last year. That's the finding from new figures collected by the Office of National Statistics. Arrivals actually saw a 3% increase on the same month a year ago, with spend up 1%, but that included the extra leap-year day.

The British Hospitality Association (BHA) has urged its members to consult security guidelines in preparation for the London 2012 Olympics. Operators that haven't yet implemented security plans should use the BHA's toolkit in order to do so, the trade body advised.

Kit Chapman has announced plans to open a new restaurant at the Castle at Taunton, almost a year to the day after it closed its principal dining room in order to focus efforts on its brasserie operation, Brazz. This summer will see the opening of a new restaurant at the Castle, named Castle Bow Bar & Grill.

Hospitality and leisure firms have expressed mixed feelings about their business prospects for the year ahead, according to the Outlook 2012 survey by accountancy firm Baker Tilly. Around half (49%) said they were feeling positive, but an almost equal number (47%) were unsure about their future.

A care home company has bought the Vermont hotel in Newcastle upon Tyne out of administration off an asking price £9m. Property agent Christie & Co and Colliers International Hotels jointly handled the deal, which saw Gainford Care Homes buy the property, on behalf of Deloitte which was handling the administration.

Accor Hotels is set to launch its second MGallery hotel in the UK when the Francis hotel in Bath is opened on 28 May 2012. The Francis hotel will be the first MGallery outside London. It follows a £6m refurbishment of the Mercure Bath Francis hotel.

Brian Paddick, the Lib Dem candidate for the post of Mayor of London, has proposed a scheme to fund youth clubs across the capital through a voluntary £1 levy on the 50,000 three- to five-star hotel rooms in London. The scheme would also be funded by banks, according to The Metro.

The Magdalen Chapter in Exeter - the second property which is soon to be opened by Chapter Hotels - has announced its first two key appointments. Fiona Moores is to return to the 59-bedroom hotel as general manager, after having previously run the property when it was known as the Hotel Barcelona .

The administration of Von Essen Hotels has been extended by six months to allow time to dispose of the group's two as-yet-unsold hotels. Permission was granted to Alan Bloom, Angela Swarbrick and Christopher Marsden of Ernst & Young by the High Court of Justice to extend the administration period to 18 October.

Andrew Turner has announced that he is to join the Café Royal as executive head chef. Turner, who resigned from celebrated restaurant Wiltons in St James earlier this week, joins the Regent Street property a month prior to its official opening in June, following a three-year refurbishment.
