Travelodge is to strengthen its presence in Spain by opening a fourth, 116-bedroom hotel in the country today in Valencia. Work has also started on the building of a new 250-bedroom hotel in Barcelona Poble Nou, which is due to open in spring 2013.

Kenny Atkinson, director of food at Rockliffe Hall in County Durham, is set to launch a second restaurant at the five-star resort where he also runs his eponymous restaurant at the Orangery. The Brasserie by Atkinson, which will launch next week, will replace the 61-bedroom hotel's existing Waterhouse Bistro adjacent to its spa.

Patisserie Valerie has moved closer to 50 outlets, after the upmarket café operator acquired a new site in Hove, East Sussex. Michelin-starred chef Martin Wishart is looking to bring his brasserie the Honours to Glasgow.
