Costa and Premier Inn drive Whitbread growth

Whitbread logoCosta and Premier Inn have once again driven strong growth at Whitbread, which has reported total sales growth of 11.4% in the third quarter of the year. The company said that Costa's revenues were up 25.2%, while Premier Inn rose 8.3%. Revpar at the hotels business increased by 3.2%.

Two-Michelin-starred Bruno Barbieri to open London restaurant

Bruno BarbieriTwo-Michelin-starred Italian chef Bruno Barbieri is set to come to London, Caterer and Hotelkeeper has learnt. The former Relais & Château Grand chef, who ran the Arquade restaurant at the Hotel Villa del Quar in Verona for ten years, will launch the new restaurant in Marylebone in March.

Domino's opens three new stores

Domino's pizzaPizza delivery firm Domino's has opened two new stores in a week, creating up to 60 jobs, and has another planned to open in Birmingham later this month. The company has opened stores in Brackley and Gloucester, each of which is expected to create 25-30 jobs.

Clive Dixon joins White Oak as chef-patron

Clive DixonFormer Michelin-starred chef Clive Dixon is to join the White Oak country pub in Cookham, Berkshire, as chef-patron. Dixon, who previously worked as head chef at Pierre Koffmann's restaurant at the Berkeley Hotel in London, has formed a partnership with owners Henry and Katherine Cripps.

Novus Leisure boosts sales following Balls Brothers and Lewis & Clark takeover

London restaurant L'Etranger to open lounge bar and dining room

l'EtrangerLondon restaurant L'Etranger is to expand by opening a lounge bar and dining room, located next door to the restaurant. Housed in the former site of the Opal night club in South Kensington, the new 40-seat space, which will open in January, will be called Mersault, named after the French wine from the Burgundy area.

The UK's restaurant and bar sector is likely to see a "significant increase" in mergers and acquisitions activity in 2012, according to accountancy firm BDO. BDO said that a combination of private equity interest, strong chains looking to cash in and banks offloading repossessed assets would stoke the activity.
