Admiral Taverns reduces estate by 477 sites to concentrate on 'core' community pubs

Admiral Taverns has reduced net debt by £76.7m to £223m having sold 477 sites during the year to May 2011. The pub group said it had improved profit per pub and margins having shed underperforming sites to leave a "quality core".

Visitor levels for 2011 to be maintained in 2012

The number of visitors to Britain in 2012 and the amount they spend are expected to mirror the figures for this year, according to VisitBritain's forecast. About 30.7m visitors, spending some £17.6b, are expected to come to Britain in 2012. VisitBritain's chief executive, Sandie Dawe said that maintaining current visitor levels would be a good outcome in a year that is proving difficult to predict due to the current global economic climate.

14-year-old admits robbing Ledbury diners during London riots
