The former right-hand man of hotelier Gordon Campbell Gray has been appointed general manager of Raffles Praslin Seychelles. Simon Hirst has worked with Campbell Gray since 1997, when he was appointed opening general manager of One Aldwych, London.

Hilton Worldwide has unveiled a strategy to open 500 new restaurants across the globe over the next three years, with more than 100 of those planned for Europe. The company, which currently operates more than 225 hotels across the European region, has launched a new website - hiltonrestaurantconcepts.com.

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has appointed Edward Shapard as general manager of Elbow Beach in Bermuda. He joins with 14 years of hospitality experience, which includes a number of roles at Mandarin Oriental properties around the world since 2005.

Millennium & Copthorne Hotels posted a record year of results in 2011, with profits before tax rising by 50.3% to £193.3m. Highlights of the year included overall revenue per available room (revpar) increasing globally by 5.8% - primarily driven by an increase in room rate - with London revpar increasing 8.8% to £97.92 (2010: £90.02).
