Helen Evans from the Michelin-starred Simpsons restaurant in Birmingham has been named the British Culinary Federation (BCF) Young Chef of the Year 2009. The 22-year-old beat 15 other chefs, aged 23 or under, from across the hospitality industry to the title of the national competition.

Restaurateur and celebrity chef Paul Heathcote is to receive an MBE from the Queen in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace held today. The Bolton-born chef was recognised earlier this year in the Queen’s birthday honours list for his services to the hospitality industry.

Chef Andrew Bennett, food and beverage director at the Park Lane hotel, London, has been presented with an MBE by the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
Bennett, who has been at the Park Lane hotel since 1994, received the honour for his “exceptional services to the hospitality industry”.

Jurys Inns looks set to be the UK’s greenest hotel group when it becomes the first operator to have all its properties awarded either a gold or silver award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS). The 30-strong hotel group has just received its 14th gold award from the GTBS, a feat no other large hotel group has achieved.
