Two pubs are closing every day, according to new figures released today by the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra). The new research, timed to coincide with the release of Camra's Good Beer Guide 2012, showed that nine tied pubs were closing every week, compared with five free-of-tie pubs.

Smaller pubs, restaurants and other venues may no longer have to apply and pay for an entertainment licence, under Government plans to scrap parts of the Licensing Act 2003. The Department for Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) this week published a consultation paper on the proposals.

The Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) has revealed its 16 Regional Pub of the Year winners, as part of the publication of its Good Beer Guide 2012. The pubs are judged by Camra's 130,000 members on all criteria including atmosphere, decor, customer service, value for money and the quality of the real ale and cider/perry.

Peach Pub Company is preparing to open an as-yet unnamed 15th site, as the company unveiled increased turnover and profit for 2010/11. The Oxfordshire-based firm saw its turnover climb 21% to £16.3m for the year to 2 January 2011, while pre-tax profit was also up by 36% to almost £407,000.
