Ex-Marston's staff jailed for pub arson

Two former employees of a Marston's pub in Wales have been jailed after admitting carrying out an arson attack on the pub they used to work at. The pair started the blaze at the Running Hare in Ewloe, Flintshire, which caused £500,000 of damage, in order to cover up a £200 theft from a gaming machine.

Large fine for owners of Penhallow hotel, where three people died in fire

Penhallow blazeThe owners of a Cornish hotel destroyed by fire which killed three people have been fined £80,000 and ordered to pay £62,000 costs for failing to meet fire safety standards. Firefighters described the fire at the 54-bedroom Penhallow hotel in Newquay, on 18 August 2007, as the worst British hotel fire in 40 years.

Government set to allow communities more say on licensing

The Government has unveiled new plans to give local residents more control over licensing as part of its Crime and Policing Bill. The bill would allow communities and local authorities new powers to restrict premises from selling alcohol late at night if necessary, and to clamp down harder on premises that persistently sell to children - doubling the fine to £20,000.

Landmark hotelA Saudi prince had been found guilty of murdering his servant at the Landmark hotel in London. Saud Abdulaziz bin Nasser al Saud will be sentenced tomorrow for the murder of Bandar Abdulaziz, 32, on 15 February 2010. He denied murdering Abdulaziz, but admitted manslaughter.

No charges brought after Star Inn arrest

An unnamed member of staff at the Michelin-starred Star Inn at Harome, North Yorkshire, has been released without charge following allegations of bullying at the restaurant. The 26-year-old, who is believed to be a chef, was arrested in June following claims that two chefs had been "tortured" in the kitchen at the renowned pub.
