The UK has cemented its position as the world's biggest importer of wine and is set to see its consumption of all types of the drink climb to 151.5 million cases by 2014. Meanwhile, total wine sales in the UK are also set to climb slightly to almost £9b by 2014. Despite that, the average retail price of a bottle has fallen slightly, to £5.23 in 2010.

Aggi Sverrisson chef-director of Texture in London, creates two dishes for Caterersearch: Beetroot salad with goat cheese snow and a traditional Scandinavian dish Gravlax. Xavier Rousset, Sverrison's partner at Texture and the restaurant's sommelier matches the dishes with wine.

London gastropub owners Tom and Ed Martin have launched a wine training scheme for their pub managers in a bid to improve staff knowledge and to help boost sales. The duo's ETM Group, a former Catey winner, runs eight pubs across the capital including the Botanist on Sloane Square, the Empress of India in Victoria Park and the Gun in Docklands.

Tom and Ed Martin's White Swan pub in London's Fetter Lane is hold a special wine-matching dinner to celebrate South African wine ahead of the World Cup.
The pub is set to serve a five-course feast, paired with a selection of wines from the prestigious South African wine estate Vergelegen.

Gordon Ramsay is facing a second lawsuit over unpaid wine bills at his two-Michelin-starred restaurant in New York. Last week Wineberry America filed a lawsuit against the celebrity chef and Blackstone Group, which now operates the restaurant at the London hotel in midtown Manhattan, over unpaid bills of nearly $41,000 (£28,000).
