The two Bistro du Vin restaurants in London - launched with great fanfare and aggressive expansion plans last year - have been sold by the MWB Group, for £1.2m. Burger & Lobster, which currently has one outlet in Mayfair, has bought the two restaurants, in Clerkenwell and Soho.

The go-ahead had been given for the development of the former Surrey home of Lord Beaverbrook into a world-class, five-star hotel. Property and leisure operator Longshot expects to begin work in the autumn on transforming Cherkley Court, near Leatherhead, into a 48-bedroom luxury hotel.

The arrival of the Olympic Flame in the UK on Friday is being marked by Holiday Inn, the official hotel provider to the games, with the offer of a special room rate. The one-off Old Flame rate, redeemable from 18 May to 30 September, is intended to give couples the chance to rekindle their romance.

Former Manchester United football star Gary Neville had been given the green light to build a £20m hotel close to Old Trafford, despite objections from his former club. Trafford Council has granted planning permission for the three- to four-star, 139-bedroom hotel, which will incorporate the Old Trafford Supporters Club.

The British Hospitality Association (BHA) has replaced its council and national executive with a constitution and a new board of directors made up of high-powered executives from across the hospitality industry. The industry body said it had made the move because its old structure had become increasingly complex and unwieldy.

Tourism trade association UKinbound has criticised the Government for its "continued neglect" of inbound tourism at ABTA's annual Travel Matters conference.
