Travelodge intends to take advantage of the weak property market by expanding its location wish-list to 146 sites. The budget hotel chain said it was responding to the availability of sites that would previously have been sold for prime residential and commercial use.

Italian restaurant group Carluccio's is planning to open 10 new restaurants in 2012, the first of which will be on Paddington Street, London, in February. Previously Colony Restaurant and Bar, the site will house a restaurant, food shop and delicatessen.

Apex Hotels is to open its third London hotel - the four-star, 184-bedroom Apex Temple Court - on 1 April 2012. It is situated just off Fleet Street in the conservation area of the Inner Temple, and the group says the hotel's opening rate will start from £129.

Two-Michelin-starred Italian chef Bruno Barbieri is set to come to London, Caterer and Hotelkeeper has learnt. The former Relais & Château Grand chef, who ran the Arquade restaurant at the Hotel Villa del Quar in Verona for ten years, will launch the new restaurant in Marylebone in March.

Pizza delivery firm Domino's has opened two new stores in a week, creating up to 60 jobs, and has another planned to open in Birmingham later this month. The company has opened stores in Brackley and Gloucester, each of which is expected to create 25-30 jobs.

London restaurant L'Etranger is to expand by opening a lounge bar and dining room, located next door to the restaurant. Andre Balazs, the owner of some of the USA's most iconic hotels, is set to launch a property in London. Situated on the site of the old fire station on Chiltern Street, Marylebone, the hotel is expected to open in 2013. Few details have been confirmed about the property.

Elior has launched its first hotel concession business at Starwood's inaugural UK-based Aloft property, Aloft London ExCel. The contract caterer was appointed to operate the hotel's FEDE restaurant in a 10-year deal worth £14m.
