Despite the UK officially going back into recession last week, research carried out by accountancy firm RSM Tenon has shown that hospitality and leisure businesses are far more confident about the second quarter of 2012 than they were at the beginning of the year.

Devon & Cornwall police have indicated that three guests are still unaccounted for, following the fire that ravaged the Falmouth Beach Hotel yesterday. It was reported that hotel staff and around 30 guests, including Blur guitarist Graham Coxon, were evacuated from the Best Western hotel.

Ten fire engines were called to the scene of a massive blaze at the Falmouth Beach Hotel, in Falmouth, Cornwall, today. The fire was reported at the 120-bedroom Best Western property at Gyllyngvase beach seafront at 12.09pm.

The London Olympics still looks set to be a lucrative period for London hoteliers, with both committed occupancy and average daily rates well up on the same period a year before. Research by TravelClick showed that committed occupancy for the Olympic period of 27 July to 12 August is 183.2% up year-on-year.
