Boutique contract caterer Wilson Vale has added the Hipperholme Grammar School Foundation in Halifax to its growing portfolio of independent school contracts. The one-year deal, which started on 3 May and was previously operated in-house, is worth £200,000 a year in turnover.

Ampersand has beaten incumbent operator Elior and rival caterer Benugo to win the lucrative Royal Historic Palaces public catering deal worth £60m. The sought-after contract is a massive coup for Ampersand, which was formed last year when parent company CH&Co split Charlton House into five specialist sub-divisions.

Blue Apple Catering has seen off stiff competition from rival BaxterStorey to win a three-year contract with Help for Heroes. The two contract caterers were invited to take part in a culinary competition to provide food for the Armed Forces at Tedworth House, in a £1.1m deal.

Catermasters has won a three-year catering contract with RS Components. The two-site deal with the world's largest distributor of electronics and maintenance products is worth around £2.5m in total turnover. Catermasters takes over from the incumbent operator, Graysons Restaurants, next week.

Sports and leisure caterer OJ's has won two catering contracts worth almost £7m in total. The Sussex-based caterer has been awarded a contract of around 10 years to operate at the recently redeveloped Billingham Forum in Stockton-on-Tees, with a review after five years.

Kudos has won a £1.3m banqueting and retail contract with Derby City Council at two of its live music and entertainment venues. The hospitality provider, part of the Crown Group, will provide services at the Assembly Rooms and the Guildhall Theatre as part of the two-year deal.

Eurest Services, the B&I division of Compass Group, has won a £12.5m contract with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). The five-year, nil-subsidy deal will see Eurest operate employee restaurants, hospitality, conferences and vending across Defra's 10 sites.

Food design and event management company Tapenade has won a £300,000 contract for this year's Royal International Air Tattoo.
