Jan Matthews, head of catering for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), will take to the podium for the Arena Savoy Lecture, it has been announced. The Arena Savoy Lecture is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 20 March.

Keith Prowse, Compass Group's specialist hospitality division, has been awarded a lucrative five-year contract to deliver overseas tours and UK hospitality programmes at the Championships, Wimbledon. The new appointment, which starts in 2013, was awarded by the All England Club.

One of the original apprentices at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant, who went missing last October, has been found dead. The body of missing chef Kevin Boyle, 26, was discovered in a back garden in south London. News of Boyle's death has left Jamie Oliver "deeply saddened", according to the BBC.

Harrogate International Centre was the big winner at the Kudos "K" Awards, after two of its staff members picked up the employee and general manager of the year titles at the company's annual awards event, held last week. Kudos, the food and venue arm of the Crown Group, named Leah White its employee of the year.

The Crown Group's Kudos Cafés business has won a £12m contract with Warwick District Council to deliver food and venue management services at four venues in Royal Leamington Spa. The six-year deal sees Kudos provide a new food offer at the Restaurant in the Park, renamed Jephson's Brasserie, and the Aviary Cafe, both located in Jephson Gardens.

Bidvest Logistics has won an £86m three-year contract extension to supply dry, frozen and chilled food to Gondola Group's nationwide restaurant chains. The contract for Gondola, which owns the Pizza Express, Byron, Zizzi and Ask restaurant chains, will be effective from July 2012.

Hospitality Action is calling on its physically fit supporters to take part in a cycle ride from London to Paris this summer as the charity endeavours to raise £20,000 for those in need. Travelling between two of the world's most fascinating cities, participants will leave London on 29 June.

Three- and four-star hotels in Scotland and Wales had a tougher time than their English counterparts during November 2011, according to accountants and business advisers PKF. The firm's monthly survey found that year-on-year revenue fell by 7.3% in Scotland and was down 12.4% in Wales.

South-west-based restaurant/café/bar group Loungers enjoyed its busiest-ever month in December 2011, with net sales for the month up 49.4% on 12 months ago to almost £1.6m. Meanwhile, like-for-like sales at the group were up by more than 6%.

BaxterStorey has scooped a sweet deal to provide staff dining at gum and jellies manufacturer Haribo. Believed to be worth in excess of £100,000, the two-year contract will see BaxterStorey cater for 550 Haribo employees at its UK head office in Pontefract, West Yorkshire.

Restaurant group Tragus is to open a new Oriel Brasserie at Heathrow Airport's Terminal 3 this month, nearly two years after the original on Sloane Square closed after 20 years. The new restaurant, which will open on 25 January, will be located airside at Terminal 3, with a capacity for up to 115 diners.

A scheme designed to grade bar and pub staff on their whisky knowledge is set to be introduced in Scotland. VisitScotland, the national tourism agency, is backing the project - the first of its kind to be accredited - to provide a boost for the tourism, whisky and hospitality industries.

34, the latest restaurant from Caprice Holdings, was the focus of the reviews this weekend and it largely impressed the critics. While dinner at the Mayfair restaurant, which has steak at its heart, certainly isn't cheap, the fabulous grilled meats and devil-may-care luxury make it really rather worth a visit.

A Chinese restaurant in Greenwich has been handed a record fine of £54,000 and its owners have been banned from running restaurants in the future after it failed to clean up its act. The Peninsula restaurant, 85 Bugsbys Way, SE10 pleaded guilty in Woolwich Crown Court to 18 breaches of food hygiene...

Ode in Shaldon, Devon, has been named the UK's most sustainable restaurant by the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA). The SRA's inaugural national awards, announced at London's Cinnamon Club today, recognised restaurants across seven categories covering all aspects of sustainability.

Police have begun an investigation into allegations that food served by Eurest at a London crown court were spiked with urine. The advocates' lounge in Snaresbrook Crown Court was closed after police were contacted when judges and barristers complained the food smelled "a bit off".
