Clive DixonFormer Michelin-starred chef Clive Dixon is to join the White Oak country pub in Cookham, Berkshire, as chef-patron. Dixon, who previously worked as head chef at Pierre Koffmann's restaurant at the Berkeley Hotel in London, has formed a partnership with owners Henry and Katherine Cripps.

Novus Leisure boosts sales following Balls Brothers and Lewis & Clark takeover

Restaurants and bars to see more takeover activity in 2012

The UK's restaurant and bar sector is likely to see a "significant increase" in mergers and acquisitions activity in 2012, according to accountancy firm BDO. BDO said that a combination of private equity interest, strong chains looking to cash in and banks offloading repossessed assets would stoke the activity.

In-administration Luminar bought in £45m deal

Luminar logoThree leisure industry specialists have bought in-administration nightclub firm Luminar in a £45m deal which is expected to save 3,000 jobs. The company, which runs the Lava & Ignite, Oceana and Liquid clubs, went into administration with debts of £140m in October, owing more than £80m to banks.

13th-century pub badly damaged in fire

Swan InnFire has badly damaged a 13th-century thatched pub in Milton Keynes village. The Swan Inn's roof and first floor were badly damaged, and it took 40 firefighters to bring the blaze under control. Luckily, no one was hurt during the fire. Some of the pub's extension and restaurant area were also saved.
